Olga Mendez Vasquez, age 94, passed away peacefully in her residence on May 30, 2021 in Uvalde, Texas. She was born in Crystal City, Texas on March 10, 1927 to the late Miguel Mendez and Enemencia Rodriguez Mendez. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her husband Santos L. Vasquez, son Hector M. Vasquez, grandson Justin Elliott Cruz, sister Delia Lopez, brothers Oscar Mendez and Miguel Mendez Jr, daughter-in-law Mary Lou Vasquez, and son-in-law R. William “Bill” Cruz. She is survived by her sons Ervey Vasquez of Austin, Texas, Santos Vasquez Jr of San Antonio, Texas, Arturo Vasquez, George Vasquez, Gilbert Vasquez and wife Sandra, and Jason Vasquez, all of Uvalde, Texas, daughters Viola V. Cruz, Norma Jean V. Navejar, Cindy V. Gonzalez and husband Frank, all of San Antonio, Texas, daughter in law, Mary T. Vasquez of San Antonio; brother, Edward Mendez of Lubbock, Texas; sister, Rosa Mendez of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren Michelle M. Palacios, Jennifer N. Vargas, Hector Edward Vasquez, Alan Vasquez, Megan Liné Boytos, William Patrick Cruz, Santos “Tito” R. Vasquez III, Steven R. Vasquez, Angela Lynn Vasquez, Eric John Navejar, Priscilla Ann Cortez, Briana Alena Vasquez, and Sarah Elise Vasquez, 22 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday June 7, 2021 at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Funeral Home beginning at 6:00 pm, followed by a Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm. A second visitation will be held at 9:00 am on Tuesday June 8, 2021 at Rushing-Estes-Knowles, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father Edward Morales officiating, followed by committal services at Hillcrest Cemetery.
